Letter to the editor:
When a grandmother opens her home and agrees her grandchildren may come over after school, you might/could/should provide snacks and drinks as grandmother is likely on fixed income.
Friends of grandchildren are welcome occasionally. If this happens more than once a week, the friend’s family might/could/should also provide snacks and drinks for hungry children.
Another suggestion for opportunities to help might/could/should be laundry soap (accidents do happen) or help with the water bill (flushing and showers add up).
Friends’ families might/could/should remind their children not to invite themselves to go to grandma’s house. This puts grandma’s grandchildren in a potentially embarrassing situation.
Remember, while grandma loves to see her grandchildren, she also enjoys seeing her own friends. Be diligent about picking up your children at the agreed time so she might continue to have a life of her own—if she’s not too tired.
