The Southern Tier wrestling team traveled to Newton to participate in the Newton Cardinal Classic wrestling meet on Saturday, December 3.
Mount Ayr saw three wrestlers throughout the meet in Alexis Greenland, Anna Greenland and Kalee Wise.
Alexis Greenland finished second overall in the 140 pound weight class after falling in round one to Cadence Bushong of Valley by fall in 46 seconds.
Greenland bounced back and defeated Zoey Vandevender of the Highway 34 team by fall in 3:31 and then Clair Breuer of Newton by fall in 5:09.
Kalee Wise was 1-2 on the day, falling to Assumption Davenport’s April Johnson in the 145C class by fall in 3:41.
Wise would defeat Highway 34’s Riley DeGonia by fall in 2:24 before her day ended with a loss to Lewis Centrals Espie Almazan by fall in 38 seconds.
Anna Greenland competed in the 145B class and was 0-2 on the day.
Greenland received a first round bye before falling in 45 seconds to Pella’s Ellison Ritzert and then to Newton’s Brianna Aebischer in 52 seconds.
