John Bruce Adams was born on Valentines Day, February 14, 1959 to parents, Robert Eugene and Betty Lee (Giger) Adams, in Rockford, IL. He was welcomed home by sisters, Kathy Lee and Barbara Ann, and a brother, Robert Eugene. A few years later the family welcomed another sister, Hope. The family lived in Rockford for several years then moved to the Cape Girardeau, MO area for a while and later to the Fort Dodge, IA area where John attended Arey Elementary School, South Jr. High and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1977. After high school, he joined the US Navy and did basic training at Great Lakes Naval Academy then served on the USS Midway and the USS Mount Vernon. After leaving the Navy, he lived in the Portland, OR area until returning to help on the family farm in Kellerton, IA, where he resided until the death of both his parents. He had recently purchased a home in Mount Ayr where he resided until the time of his death.
John was an avid sportsman who loved hunting, fishing, boating and enjoyed spending time at the family lot at Loch Ayr Lake with family and friends. He loved wildlife of all types and had a special affinity for bird watching. He also loved history and enjoyed researching archaeological sites and Native American lore.
John passed on November 26, 2022, after an extensive battle with cancer.
He is preceded in death by his dad, Robert; his mother, Betty, infant brother, Gary Eugene, and brother-in-law, Walter Collis.
He is survived by sister, Kathy, and brother-in-law, Daniel McLain of Mount Ayr; sister, Barb (Walt) Collis, of Kellerton, IA; brother, Robert, and sister-in-law, Linda Adams, of Council Bluffs, IA; and sister, Hope, and brother-in-law, Daniel Jackson, of Kellerton, IA. He had several nieces and nephews; Brandy (Tracy)Anderson of Mount Ayr; Robert ( Delana) El-Halhuli of Bellvue, WA , Shama Hughes of Portland, OR; Kari Ann Collis, Grand River, IA; Scott ( Randi) Adams of Omaha, NE; Darrell Adams of Minneapolis, MN; and Jennifer (Tim) Creveling, Ellston IA; great nieces and nephews; Brandy and Tracy’s daughters, Alexa and Allison, Bob and Delana’s son, Tyler, Shama’s twin boys, Johnny and Sami, Kari’s son, Oakley, and daughter, Abby McQueen, Scott and Randi’s daughters, Lillian and Madison, Darrell’s daughter, Mahkia Bonczyk, Jennifer and Tim’s twins, Emmaleigh and Easton; and many lifelong friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date with memorial to be announced.
Internment to be at Oak Ridge Cemetary in Mount Ayr, IA.
