A new advertising designer has recently joined the staff at the Mount Ayr Record-News and Diagonal Progress.
Jennifer Kellner brings with her knowledge and experience in graphic design and marketing.
Kellner earned a Bachelor of Arts with an emphasis in graphic design from Western Illinois University in 1999.
A native of West Des Moines, she moved to Mount Ayr in 2006. She was employed with Ringgold County Public Health as community outreach coordinator.
Later, she joined Ringgold County Hospital an administrative assistant.
In both positions, Kellner had the opportunity to become familiar with the public in Ringgold County.
This exposure gave her a desire to “have a place where I can serve the community and feel personally fulfilled.”
In May 2022, Kellner was approached by Record-News publisher and owner Tom Hawley, who offered her a part-time position as a marketing designer in the absence of LuAnn Jackson, the paper’s long-time advertising director.
Following Jackson’s subsequent departure from the paper, Kellner moved to the full-time position.
Her current role allows Kellner to use her skill and talent to “give back to the community as much as I have received.”
“This is a breath of fresh air, a chance to step away from the rigidity of corporate business and long commutes,” she added. “It’s a job where we get to keep the public informed. We are the primary source for getting the news and public notices out, while helping to bring together people from all over the community.”
Kellner lives in Mount Ayr with her husband Andy and her daughters Ivy and Elizabeth.
