December Scramble
The Southern Tier Wrestling team traveled to Panorama last week where they were one of 29 teams participating.
Mount Ayr had three girls competing in Kalee Wise, Anna Greenland and Alexis Greenland.
Wise took first place at 144 over Elyn Bartine of West Marshall, defeating her by fall in 51 seconds.
Wise would then compete in the 143-144B class, falling to Espie Almazan of Lewis Central by fall in 54 seconds.
Anna Greenland fell to Cieanna Ficken of West Marshall in 23 seconds in the 1401-141C class.
Greenland’s day didn’t end there, howeer, falling to Mia South of S.W.A.T. Valkyrie by fall in 1:06.
Alexis Greenland defeated Panorama’s Regan Boblett by fall in the 135-136 class in 54 seconds, while also defeating Stefi Beiswenger of Audubon by fall in 23 seconds in the 133-136 class.
Pride of Iowa
The Southern Tier wrestling team competed at the Pride of Iowa tournament held at Southeast Warren on December 17, where they finished seventh overall.
In the tournament, Mount Ayr saw Kalee Wise, Anna Greenland and Alexis Greenland compete.
At 135 pounds, Alexis Greenland finished second overall, just behind Mila Kuhns of Creston.
Greenland started the day out with a win over Ballard’s Liberty Boettger, pinning her in 1:57.
Greenland would fall to Kuhns in 1:55 in the next match, before defating Kaycee Lynch of Panorama by fall in 1:21 to take second.
Wise finished the day in fifth place overall, defeating Regan Boblett by fall in 12 seconds to secure the place.
Wise fell to Moravia’s Breegan Ellison by fall in 1:50 to begin the day, while also falling to Ballard’s Caliegh Rhiner by fall in 53 seconds, before ending her day on a win.
Anna Greenland took first place overall in the 145 pound class, her first time atop the podium.
Greenland defeating S.W.A.T.’s Lilliana Tafoys by fall in 1:20 to move on to round two where she defeating Layla Greene of Panorama by fall in 2:52.
Greenland would defeating Ayla Ott of Ballard by fall in 1:28 to take first place.
