The Mount Ayr City council met for the first time, in 2023, on Monday January 2 to set a public hearing, discuss the sale of city owned property, and renewing an alcohol license.
One main talking point to the agenda, was the decision to hold a public hearing. This hearing is for the passing of a budget amendment for the fiscal year ending June 30 2023.
The budget amendment in question is to cover legal fees incurred during the city’s appeal of the zone of adjustments decision regarding the Dunning Street property. The estimated increase is set at $50,000.
The city is considering the sale of the properties, held by the city, through sealed bid requests.
The council voted unanimously to renew the Mount Ayr Hy-Vee Alcoholic beverage sale license.
Administrative items not requiring a vote were, the decision to retain Jason Palmer as City legal counsel, updating City FMLA policy, and an update on community fundraising for the downtown renewal project. In regards to the renewal project, the state has just authorized a $750,000 community funding project grant for use towards the project.
The decision on approving repairs on two city manholes was held over to next session.
