BEULAH L. HARTMAN

On June 16, 1924, Beulah L. was born to Frank and Loretta Patterson Parkis in Guthrie County, IA. The family was later joined by a brother, Robert. Moving from that farm to Adair County as a small child, she attended rural school. She graduated from Greenfield High School in 1941. She worked at a dairy in Greenfield that bottled milk and sold in around the community.
She met Jack E. Hartman and later married him on October 14, 1942. To this union were born two children, Richard and Linda. While living in Adair County, Beulah helped Jack on the farm and worked in town. In 1959 the family moved to Mount Ayr. She did the bookkeeping for Jack when he ran the Phillips 66 station. She trained at the Grant City, MO Cap Factory until the factory opened in Mount Ayr where she worked for 17 years. In 1983 she began working at the hospital and remained until her retirement in 1990.
Beulah enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing cards and crocheting. Beulah was known for her love of sweets. Her children, grandchildren, daughter-in-law and great grandchildren brought her great joy and pride. Her home was always open to her friends and the friends of her children, some of whom called her “Mom”.
