West Central Valley
The Southern Tier wrestling team traveled to Stuart for the West Central Valley Wrestling Invitational.
At the meet, 13 teams participated, with Southern Tier taking third overall with 58 points, behind West Marshall who took first with 227 and Creston who had 85.

Starting at 135 pounds, Alexis Greenland was able to defeat Regan Boblett (Panorama) by fall in 55 seconds. Advancing to the semi-finals saw Greenland defeated by Mila Kuhns (Creston) by fall in 1:19.
Greenland would go on to win two more matches to take third place, the first over Brooklyn Mau (Assumption, Davenport) by fall in 1:05 and the third place match over Madelyn Thompson (West Marshall) by fall in 2:57.
At 140 pounds, Mount Ayr would see Kalee Wise take a first round win but fall in the quarterfinals.
Wise defeated Saraya Burkas-Thomson Raccoon River-Northest) by fall in 3:41.
In the quarterfinals, Wise fell to Joselyn McCunn (Red Oak) in 2:03.
Wise would win her next three matches before falling in the third place match.
Wise defeated Georgia Flanery (Panorama) by fall in 3:04 and then defeated April Johnson (Assuption, Davenport) by fall in 3:04 before defeating Bella Bruins (Raccoon River-Northwest) by a close 5-4 decision.
In the third place bout, Wise lost by no-contest against Zoey Vandevender (Creston).
At 145 pounds, Anna Greenland defeated Natalie Geisler (SEW) by fall in 2:49 before falling to Naomi Templeman (Raccoon River-Northwest) by fall in 1:38.
Savanna Perry (West Marshall) defeated Greenland in the consolation semifinals by fall in 17 seconds, however, Greenland took fifth place, defeating Elyn Bartine (West Marshall) by fall in 1:07.
Valley Girls Round Robin
At Valley High School in Des Moines, the Southern Tier wrestling team saw a champion crowned, in Mount Ayr senior Kalee Wise.
Wise was up against Emily Herman (Southeast Polk), Kaydance Hancock (Ottumwa) and Emma Wenger (Albia).
Wise was first up against Herman, where she defeated the Southeast Polk wrestler by fall in 2:26 to advance to face Hancock.
Wise got the pin in 3:18.
Wise had to go through Wenger, who had defeated both of her opponents by fall in less than one minute.
Wise and Wenger battled for 4:22 before Wise got the pin and first place medal.
Alexis Greenland began her day against Aubree Becthold of Southeast Polk.
Greenland won in the first round by fall in 1:19.
Greenland then came up against Mila Kuhns of Creston, who defeated her just a few days before at West Central Valley, by fall in 1:19.
Greenland was able to get revenge and defeat Kuhns by fall in 2:42 to advance to round three.
Greenland faced Pella’s Elizabeth Thomas who was able to get the pin on Greenland in 1:45, putting Greenland securely in second place.
Anna Greenland started her day off with a tough loss to Des Moines Public’s Diana Gaie, falling in 1:09.
Greenland was able to get the pin over Valley\s Kendey Fritz in 52 seconds to stay alive in the tournament.
The last match came between Fritz and Gaie and saw Gaie take first which put Greenland in second.
