CLARA MCVEY

Clara was born on September 23, 1946, to Virgil and Dorothy (Cartwright) Harris. She was welcomed home by two older sisters. She passed away unexpectedly on January 26, 2023.
Clara grew up in Diagonal where she graduated high school in 1965. She married Bud Ayres and welcomed two daughters, Deb and Pam. Later on, she married Bob McVey and welcomed a stepdaughter into her life, Pam Meyer.
Clara lived in Mount Ayr, IA most of her life and worked 35 years at Clearview nursing home. Later in her career, she worked in the Alzheimer’s unit there. She found her work with those patients to be very rewarding.
Outside of work, she enjoyed time with her family. She loved all types of music and was known to sing along with the gang at McGoof’s Garage. Clara was also known to cheer on the Iowa and Iowa State sports teams, along with the Kansas City Chiefs. Bob and Clara spent their time together fishing, visiting casinos and enjoyed most of all the trips they took with Deb and Bill.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob McVey; her parents; son-in-law, Rick McVey; granddaughter, Susan McVey; her sister, Velda Adams and a number of brothers and sisters in law.
She is survived and greatly missed by her daughters, Deb Ayres-Sickels (Bill), Pam McVey, and stepdaughter, Pam Meyer (Jim); her grandchildren, Mandi Dunbar, Becky McVey (Justin) and Tom McVey (Miranda); 14 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; a sister, Alma Harris; special family friend, Jodi Angus, and many other family and friends.
Memorials are being accepted by the family to use at a later date.
Services were at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 30, 2023, at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, IA.
Officiating was Pastor Bill Armstrong.
Music was “In the Garden” by Alan Jackson, “How Great Thou Art” –by Alan Jackson and “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” by Carter Family.
Casketbearers were Tommy McVey, Justin Jessen, Kaleb Jessen, Austin McVey, Nick McVey, Steve Garner, Dwight Moser and Ricky Stubbs.
Burial was at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2023, at Wallace Cemetery St. Charles, IA.
