A proposed fence build at Loch Ayr, and the associated lot rent increase, was the most discussed agenda item at Mondays city council meeting.
An adjoining property is replacing 1800 feet of fence, along a property line shared with the lake.
As per the Iowa Code, The city is required to replace the portion of the fence it has responsibility for.
The city would be replacing 1800 feet as well, and according to a bid by Davidson land management, the cost for the fence itself would be $7,900.98.
In addition to the fence, brush and tree removal along the fences path, plus repairing a culvert on the route, brought the projected total to approximately $40,000.
To hedge against financing the project via a loan, or raising taxes, the city passed a motion to increase the yearly lot rental fee at Loch Ayr from $550 to $800 dollars, effective 2023.
Beyond the Loch Ayr agenda item, the council also heard from Tracee Knapp.
Knapp was present as a representative of Congressman Zach Nunn.
Knapp stated that Nunn is creating a program to help constituents of congressional district 3 access available grant programs.
The remaining agenda items were passed with little to no discussion, these items were:
A resolution approving the city’s fiscal year 2023 amendment 2.
The council set a date of February 20, 2023 for a public hearing regarding the 2023-2024 budget.
A public hearing was also set to discuss the sale of two properties owned by the city.
To conclude the evenings business, the city voted to approve a revolving loan for Cassie Hudson and her business, Firebird Fittness, LLC, as well as paying the bill for the fire detection system installed in the public library.
The loan for Hudson business came to a total of $15,000, and the bill for the fire suppressing equipment was $2,900.
