Samuel Lee Wallace, 72, was received into Heaven on February 13, 2023, at his home in Gallatin, TN surrounded by his family.
Sam was born to his parents, Chester and Doris Wallace on December 10, 1950. He grew up on the family farm near Benton, IA. He attended elementary school in Benton and then went to Mount Ayr High School. He spent his last semester of high school living with his sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Jim Madison. He later graduated high school in Preston, IA.
Sam enlisted in the United States Air Force shortly after high school and retired with honors as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1989. He served 20 years as a mechanic and instructor on the U2 Spy planes, then later on the SR-71 “Blackbird”. After retiring from the Air Force, he obtained his degree as a Radiology Technician with CT certification. He worked at the Fremont Hospital in Yuba City, CA. The family moved to Gallatin, TN in 2004 where he worked at Northcrest Hospital in Springfield until his retirement.
Sam loved gardening, landscaping and he took great pride in having a beautifully manicured lawn. He enjoyed woodworking, building pieces of furniture and rocking horses for his family. He also had a great love for his dogs and motorcycle excursions with family and friends.
On July 27, 1971, Sam married the love of his life, Patrice Greene, and together they celebrated over 50 years of marriage.
Sam will be greatly missed by his wife, Patrice; daughters, Laura Maddox and Tressa Keyer (Steve); grandchildren, Raquitta, Alex, Megan, Steven and Anthony; great grandchildren, Rachel, Brooklynn, Drayah and Doenzay. Also, his sisters, Norma Stringham (Bill), Linda Madison (Jim), Donna Walter (Kenny), Beverly Redlinger and Wanda Gaither (Robert).
Sam’s home was always open and welcoming to his family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Doris Wallace; his daughter, Rachel; his granddaughter, Angelena Maddox, and his sister, Betty Porzuczek.
Family graveside service and inurnment will be held near his childhood home in Benton, IA on April 15, 2023, with full military honors.
