The public is invited to attend two upcoming meetings to learn more about the vision of the Gold Center, a destination for all ages that supports health, wellness and growth.
The first meeting, showcasing the project scope, will be held in the auditorium at Mount Ayr Community High School on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. Alley Poyner Macchietto Architecture and Downing Construction will present conceptual floorplans and renderings. Those in attendance can provide feedback via “Mentimeter” (an interactive poll) on their smartphones.
A follow-up meeting will be held at the same location on Monday, June 12, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. with the content of that meeting contingent on feedback from the May 3rd meeting.
Now a recognized business entity in the State of Iowa, the GOLD Center is under the leadership of an executive board. Focused on four key areas, the letters in GOLD represent these priorities: Gathering, Opportunity, Learning and Development.
A $1M Career Academy Incentive Fund Grant has already been awarded to Southwestern Community College to establish Career and Technical Education (CTE) needs in Mount Ayr as part of The Gold Center. This area will provide high-quality educational and career training opportunities for high school students and adults.
Major components of the GOLD Center include a CTE area with four classrooms and a shop area, a full gymnasium with tiered seating for court sports, group fitness classes, tournaments and sports leagues, an indoor walking track and area for cardio and weight machines, remote/co-working space with private and shared offices, and a hybrid pool with large doors that retract to provide outdoor air.
