At a brief meeting of the Mount Ayr City Council on Monday, July 3, the council unanimously approved applying for permits necessary to enter into future agreements with representatives of Excel Engineering.
City superintendent Brent Wise previously recommended the city council take steps to provide additional fire protection for Excel Engineering’s expanded operation located at 904 South Cleveland Street in Mount Ayr.
A future easement agreement would allow the City of Mount Ayr to construct, repair, maintain and operate a water main, and connected hydrants, to provide additional fire protection at the Excel Engineering site.
A fire hydrant agreement would then authorize Excel Engineering to use the Mount Ayr hydrants located at the same site, in the event of an emergency.
Councilmen Mack Greene encouraged forward movement, stating, “I think we should go ahead with it. They’ve already called the fire department once.”
Greene then made a motion to move forward as recommended by city superintendent Brent Wise.
Councilwoman Jessica Bishop agreed and seconded the motion made by Greene. A roll call vote ended with council members Greene, Bishop, and Robertson (attending by phone) voting in favor. Councilmen Elliott was not present.
Other Business
In other regular business, the council also approved:
• A payment request in the amount of $4,410.25 to reimburse Garden & Associates through the WTFAP Grant #22-12.
• A public hearing on Monday, July 17 at 6:15 p.m. for a budget amendment to the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024.
Two agenda items were tabled until the next city council meeting due to not having all council members present.
The council will consider a building permit for the Ringgold Outdoor Alliance building, and a water tower agreement at the next meeting on July 17.
Administrative Report
Superintendent Wise also updated the council on progress being made to address nuisance properties.
Site work is currently underway to remove an old foundation located between the Catholic Church and the Free Methodist Church.
A second house that sustained fire damage ,north of the previous Casey’s building, is also going to be addressed once clean up at the first site is complete.
Visual examples of sites that would be determined municipal infractions were also presented to the council.
Issues of this type typically involve non-running vehicles and equipment that is too large for the city to remove without additional help.
