Randell Earl Brown

Randell Earl Brown, son of Walter Lee and Aldah Lavaun (Waggoner) Brown, was born April 18, 1933, at home in rural Ringgold County, IA. Randell has several nicknames but was mostly known as “Brownie.”

Randell graduated from Beaconsfield Consolidated School. He furthered his education with two years of correspondence course in automotive mechanics.
Randell served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1955 until his honorable discharge in 1957.

Brownie had a love of agriculture and the outdoors. In addition to farming, Brownie worked five years each, at the following businesses: Wellman’s in Creston, Denhart Station in Mount Ayr and Sunstrand in Ames. He loved to play Bingo and was active in the Mount Ayr Congregate Meal Site.

Brownie never had children of his own, but he sure enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews. He would tease them and in return, he got a good razzing from them! Brownie was a kind and generous man who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Brownie passed away on July 22, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Joy Brown, LaRetta Novak, Carroll Brown and Marvin Brown; two nephews and two nieces. Those left to cherish and share his memory include his siblings, Dwain Brown of Pleasant Hill, IA, Arlan (Linda) Brown of Indianola, IA, Gale Brown of Lincoln, NE, Sharon (Dave) Robison of Altoona, IA and Reta Freihage of Ellston, IA; sister-in-law, Leona Brown of Nevada, IA; eight nephews and 16 nieces; other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 28, 2023, at Armstrong Funeral Home Mount Ayr, IA. Officiating will be Pastor Bill Armstrong. Special Songs “Will The Circle Be Unbroken”– Carter family, “Go On Without Me”-Brett Eldredge and “I’ll Fly Away” – Alan Jackson. Casketbearers will be Russell Brown, Jack Novak, Jerry Novak, Brian Robison, Mark Overton and Tracy Freihage. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Brown, Kevin Brown and James Novak.

Military Honors by American Legion of Mount Ayr and U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
Burial will be at the Tingley Cemetery in Tingley, IA. A memorial fund has been established to the Ringgold Post #172, American Legion.
