Jane Schnoor
On August 1, 2023, Jane joined the Lord, passing quietly in her home. She was peaceful, surrounded by her family.
Jane was born in Dwight, IL on June 28, 1935, to Clifford Clement Steichen and Margaret Irene (Bannon) Steichen. Her family of four sisters; Anne, Jacelyn, Marilyn and Gretchen and three brothers; George, Clifford and James, enjoyed Livingston County, IL farming life surrounded by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jane graduated from Reddick, IL high school and proceeded to attend St. Mary School of Nursing. She and her sister, Gretchen, graduated together as registered nurses and started the practice of nursing serving veterans at the VA hospital in Dwight.
Jane married Roger George Schnoor on October 6, 1961, in Dwight. The two started their life together in Essex, IL. In 1962 their first child, Elizabeth Ann, joined the family followed by second child in 1964, Eric John. In 1966 the family moved their farm to Mount Ayr, IA. Martin George joined the family in 1968. Jane with her husband was dedicated to their farming life while raising their three children.
Jane served the sick and supported her colleagues as a registered nurse at Ringgold County Hospital and Ringgold County Public Health. Supporting young families and bringing new babies into the Mount Ayr community was one of the highlights of her career.
Jane was a longstanding parishioner of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mount Ayr.
Family was dear to Jane and over the years Jane’s family grew. Liz married Ken Younkins and they were blessed with two children, Benjamin Roger and Caroline Elizabeth. Eric and his wife, Rachel, raised three children, Eian Josh, Sherita Lavette and Kelci Susanne. Eric’s four grandchildren were welcomed great grandchildren. Marty married Jackie (Goodale) and they were blessed by two children, Weston Dean and Caleb Martin.
Memorial contributions can be made to Ringgold County Public Health and EveryStep Hospice in Mount Ayr.
Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr was in charge of the arrangements.
Services were at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mount Ayr, IA.
Officiating was Rev. Tomson Thomas.
Honorary pallbearers were Jim Steichen, Weston Schnoor, Ben Younkins and Caleb Schnoor.
Burial was at the Oakland Cemetery in Mount Ayr, IA
