Mount Ayr Community Schools are celebrating homecoming next week, September 11-16, 2023.
This year’s homecoming theme, “Let the Show Begin,” features Raider Country.
Staff and students will dress up throughout the week for daily events including:
Monday, September 11- Pajama day
Tuesday, September 12 – Favorite Sports Team (Elem), Duo, Trio, or Group day (MS/HS)
Wednesday, September 13 – Wacky Wednesday (Elem), Business Best (MS/HS)
Thursday – Raider Color Day (Elem), Game Day (MS/HS assigned theme)
Friday – Raider Spirit Day
Homecoming dress-up days are different for elementary and middle/high school students. Outfits are still expected to abide by the school’s dress code.
The annual celebration, held on Thursday, September 14, begins with the Band Boosters serving supper beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the high school commons.
The High School football team will auction off football jerseys beginning at 6:45 p.m.
The 2023 queen and king will also be crowned and the audience will be entertained with a talent show presented by the various classes.
Queen candidates include Abby Eaton, the daughter of Chris and Patty Eaton; Janna Irving, the daughter of Kevin and Melissa Irving; Anne Newton, the daughter of Sarah Newton, and the late Jeremy Newton; Hayden Ruggles, the daughter of Bret and Brandie Ruggles; and Mya Sackett, the daughter of Tom and Kristi Sackett.
King candidates are Dalton Barnes, son of Travis and Tessa Barnes; Preston Fleharty, son of Cory and Kylee Fleharty; Tucker Knox, son of Michael and Bethany Knox; Aidan Murphy, son of Jim and Tara Murphy; and Ryce Reynolds, son of Ryan and Angela Reynolds.
The big game will be held Friday, September 15 with the Homecoming parade at 1:30 p.m., followed by the community pep rally at the football field at 2:15 p.m.
That night the Raiders will host Central Decatur at 7 p.m. with recognitions at halftime.
The night concludes with a dance for middle and high school students in the high school commons after the game.
Xander Harmening will be providing music for the dance that ends at 11:00 p.m. for middle school students, and 12:00 a.m. for high school students.
