Dorothy Mae Jeanes Saville

Dorothy Mae Jeanes Saville was born March 11, 1930, to James Lloyd and Alta Mae (Kobbe) Jeanes in Ringgold County Iowa. She was welcomed by older brother Bobby and later joined by sister Patricia and brother Charlie.
Dorothy attended rural school at Lotts Creek # 4 during her early grades and went to Redding High School, graduating in 1948. She then attended Iowa Teacher College, now called the University of Northern Iowa, and became qualified to teach school. She taught rural school at Poe # 9 during the 1948-49 school year.
Dorothy married George Lewis Saville on August 6, 1949 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale near Nashua, Iowa. To this union were born six children, Sally, Dennis, Martha, Neil, Tim and Linda. They also have 14 grandchildren and14 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy and George farmed near Redding, IA, for a few years before George began teaching. Much of Dorothy’s early married years were spent raising her 6 children and managing their home. Dorothy also worked as a teacher’s aide and kindergarten teacher in Diagonal Schools. She taught Head Start for a year in Mt Ayr, worked at Schlapia Inc. in Diagonal and also at the business office at Ringgold County Hospital for 13 years.
Dorothy was a loving mother and wife who supported her children in many endeavors of sports, 4-H, college, and even learned to snow ski later in life to spend more time with her children. Dorothy and George enjoyed retirement years wintering at Bentsen Palms RV Park in Texas enjoying time with both new and old friends. Dorothy always raised a good garden and taught her children and grandchildren to enjoy time outside. She also brought her family together with many home-cooked and delicious meals. Her dinner rolls were well-known and admired at the Senior Center, and her husband, George, felt that she was the best pie maker in the county!
Dorothy died on September 25, 2023 at Mount Ayr Health Care in Mount Ayr, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, her brother Bobby and wife Fern, brother-in-law Bill Hunt, sister-in-law Eva Knapp and great granddaughter Alyssa Kuonen.
Her 6 children survive Dorothy: Sally (Jim) Stephens of Lakewood, CO; Dennis (Timi) Saville of Cheyenne, WY; Martha (Mike) Swanson of Council Bluffs, IA; Neil Saville of Laramie, WY; Tim (Lesa) Saville of Delphos, IA; and Linda (Gary) Hosfield of Redding, IA; 14 grandchildren: Ryan, Scott, and Kevin Stephens, David and Bethany Swanson, Amy Rhoad and Bonnie Gray, Joe, Hannah, and Ben Saville, Garrett Reynolds and Ashley Kuonen, and Jennifer Cornell and Thomas Hosfield and 14 great-grandchildren; her sister Patricia Hunt, brother Charles (Vickie) Jeanes, sister-in-law Pearl (Jim) James; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 6, 2023 at the Redding United Methodist Church with burial to follow at the Redding Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2023 at the Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home in Grant City, Missouri. Memorials may be made to the Redding United Methodist Church, Mount Ayr Senior Center or Mount Ayr Public Library.
