Donella Mae Taylor Jackson Johnson

Donella Mae Taylor Jackson Johnson

A wonderful life can be defined in many ways. For Donella Mae Taylor Jackson Johnson, it was the relationships with her family, friends, and the many students she taught in school. She lived a life knowing that love has no end and that God loves every child in God’s world. She passed away on December 11, 2023, at the age of 101 years and 10 months.
Donella Mae Taylor was born in Mount Ayr, Iowa on February 11, 1922, to Leo H. Taylor and Beulah Faye Davis Taylor. She was joined two years later by a sister, Annabelle. She attended Mount Ayr schools and graduated in 1940. She continued her education at Northwest Missouri College. Her teaching career started in Garden Grove, Iowa, followed by a year in Pella, Iowa.
On August 12, 1945, Donella married her high school sweetheart, George L. Jackson. They resided in Mount Ayr their entire married lives. Their daughter, Jeanne Ann, was born on March 8, 1950. When Jeannie went to first grade, Donella resumed her teaching career with Mount Ayr schools. George passed away in 1976. Donella continued to teach until she retired in 1984 after teaching 5th grade for 33 years.
In retirement, Donella enjoyed her computer, quilting, crafts and volunteering at the United Methodist Church and the Senior Center. Even though a devoted Methodist, she met and fell in love with a Baptist minister, Ralph Johnson. When they were married in 1987, Donella welcomed Ralph’s family as her own including Ralph’s sister, Irene and Ralph’s children, Karin Yungclas (Al), Kathy Long (Richard), Joanne Sylvander (Stefan), Marshall Johnson (Stephanie) and Ralph Greg Johnson and all their children and grandchildren. Ralph passed away on August 22, 2009.
In death, Donella rejoins her parents, Leo and Faye, husbands George and Ralph, and sister, Annabelle.
She is survived by Ralph’s children and their families, daughter, Jeannie Ruff (Vic), granddaughter, Emily Faith Burroughs, grandson, Aaron L. Ruff and great granddaughter, Cecilia Joy Burroughs, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the kind care givers at Clearview Estates, Clearview Nursing Home and Every Step Hospice for the outstanding care Donella received.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the United Methodist Church in Donella’s name.
Armstrong Funeral Home was in charge of the service Friday, December 15, 2023.
