Jerry Lee Cooper

Jerry Lee Cooper

Jerry Lee Cooper was born May 27, 1938, on a farm north of Tingley, IA, to Roy and Agnes Cooper. He joined sisters Imogene and Beverly, brother Harold; followed by sister Sherry.
Jerry attended country schools near Kellerton and Blackmore Corner before going to Mount Ayr Community School. Between his Sophomore and Junior year, he went to Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri, where he graduated high school. From there, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. After his discharge, Jerry returned to Iowa.
On May 8, 1971, Jerry married Judith Kay Lindsey. To this union, son Jeffery Lee and daughter Julie Kay, were born.
Jerry and Judy made their home a few miles south of Tingley. Farming and raising animals were in Jerry’s blood and something he enjoyed until his late seventies, at which point, he let son-in-law Jason put cows in with his and handing things over; but still giving his input along the way.
Jerry had a strong work ethic and believed if you worked hard, you could play hard. He enjoyed reading books and trips to the Des Moines Civic Center. Jerry spent his last few years at home with the endless help of his wife, children, and caring neighbors.
Jerry enjoyed watching from his porch the neighbors rake and bale hay; counting and writing down how many they got off each cutting. Judy took him on evening rides to check everyone’s crops and to see his dog. He was a man of black & white; you always knew where he stood. He didn’t have a grey area. What he said, he meant and that was the end of the conversation. He loved his family and would do anything for them.
On November 27, 2023, he entered Clearview Home where he departed life on January 8, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws Joe & Vera Lindsey; sisters Imogene (Jim) McMahon and Beverly (H.B.) Michael; brother Harold (Phyllis) Cooper; and grandson Triston Ackley.
Jerry is survived by his wife Judy of home; children Julie (Jason) Ackley of Tingley, IA and Jeff (Julie) Cooper of Grand Junction, IA; grandchild Hanna Ackley of Des Moines, IA; step grandchildren Mae (Burt) Davis, Allison (Johnny) Hamilton, all of Jefferson, IA; 5 step-greatgrandchildren; sister Sherry (Tom) O’Brien of Mount Ayr, IA; nieces, nephews and friends.
Per Jerry’s wishes, he will be cremated with a private family burial at a later date.
