Last Friday, Donald Trump held a “get out the vote,” rally for the South Carolina primary.
At this rally, veteran Fox News host Neil Cavuto fact-checked his speech finding a number of false statements.
Trump, who has a loose relationship with the truth, was, of course, spouting his usual line of election fraud and everyone’s against me–whine, whine!! Cavuto quoted the late Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, “Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not their own facts.”
Cavuto went on to say, “we’ll continue monitoring the president’s remarks, and I really mean no offense to him and some of you continue hearing but I did have to say that even though the former president is entitled to his opinions he is not entitled to his own set of facts.”
He brought out a handful of topics that Trump apparently got wrong including the booming stock market, Cavuto said, “the market is going up and it has nothing to do with him.” He corrected another of Trump’s wild claims that the price of gas was $6.00 a gallon, the average price is $3.267.
Of course, the centerpiece of the South Carolina rally and every Trump rally is the “big lie,” that the 2020 election was rigged.
“Not so,” says Cavuto. “This has been adjudicated many times, like dozens of times. It’s been investigated by everyone and his uncle. No fewer than 44 investigations launched. Some of them by judges picked by Trump himself found no evidence in seven battleground states, where most of them were focused. Donald Trump lost each and everyone of them, Cavuto concluded.” Kellyanne Conway, a spokesperson for the Trump administration used the term “alternative facts,” to cover up his use of false claims.
Veteran newsman Chuck Todd pointed out, as all of us really know, “alternative facts are not facts, they are falsehoods.” At a February 8 press conference at Mar-a-Lago, Trump made the false and ridiculous claim “that Nancy Pelosi caused the insurrection at the capitol on January 6th.” Speaker Pelosi and the other members of Congress and Vice President Mike Pence who the rioters wanted to hang, were in hiding. Fact: Pelosi did not cause a mob of Trump supporters inspired by his 2020 election lies to storm the capitol to stop the Vice President from certifying the electoral vote. The actions of the rioters threatened the peaceful transfer of power established by George Washington when he left office on March 4, 1797.
This peaceful transfer of power is the foundation of America’s democratic form of government and that is a fact..
