Darrell Eugene Hall

Darrell Eugene Hall, age 79, of Ozark, Missouri, was born September 13, 1944, at the hospital in Osceola, Iowa, the son of Ira Alberta and Sylvia Mae (South) Hall. He died March 15, 2024. He was welcomed home by older brother Jerry and sister Phyllis. He was a happy child and started life on a farm near Van Wert with his family.
The Hall family moved from the Van Wert, Iowa area in 1950 to a farm south of Kellerton, Iowa where Darrell grew up. Darrell and Jerry helped on the family farm with chores, milking cows and feeding hogs. He learned to drive the pickup and tractor in the pastures. As he grew, he helped in the fields, cultivating, planting, and putting up hay. All the kids helped with shocking oats and walking beans. Darrell had a Sunday Des Moines Register paper route for extra money. He enjoyed playing basketball in high school and graduated from Grand Valley Community High School in Kellerton in 1962. Darrell attended Centerville Community College and received an associate degree in electronics.
Darrell married Sue Ann Harvey on October 1, 1965, at the First Baptist Church in Mount Ayr, Iowa. Their son, Robert Darrell, was born January 19, 1969, and son, David Eugene, was born September 10, 1971. Darrell started his career working for Dictaphone Corporation in Des Moines, Iowa. He and Susie then relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, Overland Park, and later Lenexa, Kansas. Darrell continued his career with Dictaphone, serving as their District Service Manager for over 40 years. He understood technology and passed that knowledge on to his son Rob. Pre-retirement he spent a few years working at Lowes where he was able to dispense sound advice to shoppers.
After Darrell retired, he and Susie moved to Ozark, Missouri in 2010, and enjoyed the shows and other activities around Branson. The Ozark Senior Center became their favorite place where they enjoyed lunch with friends. Darrell spent many hours playing pool with his pool room buddies, attending Tuesday and Thursday evening pool sessions, and had a high opinion of his pool playing ability! They had a great group of Senior Center friends and went out to eat with several couples most Saturday nights.
Darrell was a sentimental and patient man who loved and supported his family. His son, David, participated in skiing, rodeo, basketball, bowling among other sports. David was honored to attend the World Special Olympics deadlifting competition where his parents cheered him on. They attended most of his competitions and had many friends in the Special Olympics community. Darrell was an excellent role model for Rob, providing guidance in his career, raising children and life in general.
Darrell and Susie opened their home to nieces who lived with them during summer college breaks. Above all, his wife Susie was his top priority and he loved and cared for her every day of their marriage. He did all he could to help her remain active and make her life easier.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Susie; sons Robert Hall of Kansas City, Missouri and David Hall of Parsons, Kansas; grandchildren Brett, Jake, Ashlynn, and Parker; sister Phyllis Sickels and husband Mack of Mount Ayr, Iowa; mother-in-law Joan Harvey of O’Fallon, Missouri; and sister-in-law Kathy Herron and husband John of Lake St Louis, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
