To the editor:
If you have any doubts about the ineffectiveness and inability of the majority party in the House of Representatives to do its job, i.e. govern the nation, take a closer look.
Once again, the position of the Speaker of the House has come under attack from ultra-right wing members. Fearful that the Speaker would try to limit their position of power and privilege, Freedom Caucus members have activated the Floor Action Response Team. shorthanded as “FART” with members agreeing to monitor the chamber floor to block any sudden rule changes by the GOP leadership.
Appropriately, the leader of FART is Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert who was removed from a Denver movie theater “for vaping, singing, and causing a disturbance” after multiple complaints from other patrons.
In this atmosphere there have been more resignations from the current Congress than there have been legislative breakthroughs.
For example, a bipartisan bill that addressed border issues, which they all said they wanted, and gave aid to Ukraine, and Israel was pronounced DOA by House Speaker Johnson. [Trump said “no” he doesn’t want the border issue solved].
Q Anon conspiracy theorist Greene has sponsored a motion to vacate Mike Johnson as Speaker of the House. For her unwavering support of Vladmir Putin’s brutal war against Ukraine and parroting Kremlin propaganda about a war against Nazis, a former Republican colleague Ken Buck of Colorado has dubbed her “Moscow Marjorie.”
Addressing these attacks and the general dysfunction of the Republican majority in the House, former Speaker Newt Gingrich has characterized them as “selfish idiots,” like “super narcissist,” Mark Gaetz, making it impossible for Johnson to control the House.
You can add the name of Paul Gosar of Arizona, described as “crazy” by his family, to that list as he has joined Greene’s motion to vacate.
Meanwhile the resignations keep coming, the latest is Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin as of Saturday, April 20, leaving the inmates [FART and the Freedom Caucus] in charge of the asylum.
