Lloyd Ray Johnson

Lloyd Ray Johnson, son of Wayne Ray and Bessie Emmaline (Stanley) Johnson, was born March 20, 1933, at home in the Salem Community, Ringgold County, Iowa. He was raised on a farm located in Caledonia, Iowa. Lloyd attended Mount Ayr High School and graduated with the Class of 1952. Lloyd served his country overseas in the U.S. Army from August 12, 1954, until his honorable discharge on August 4, 1956.  Lloyd was united in marriage to Muriel Theresa Stephens on January 17, 1958, at the Diagonal Baptist Church.
Lloyd had a life-long love of trucks and traveling. He loved driving trucks of all kinds and hauled anything that needed to be moved. Lloyd worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 23 years and was dedicated to his job. Lloyd had a love for his community and served on the Mount Ayr Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years.
For many years, Lloyd and Muriel enjoyed spending time with “winter Texans”, at music jams, playing dominos, and exploring. Most of all, Lloyd loved his family and friends, he relished any and all visits with them. Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren brought many joys, and he was known as the “ornery papa!”
Lloyd passed away April 22, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents Wayne & Bessie Johnson; parents-in-law Sherrill & Erna Stephens; brother Glenn Johnson; in-laws Ross & Sheryl Craft, Donald Countryman, Wendell & Carroll Craft and Great-Grandson Jakob Lee Evans.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Muriel Johnson of Mount Ayr, IA; daughters Melanie (Jim) McElvogue of Kellogg, IA, Judi (Dominic) Fontana of Harrison, AR, Linda (Harold) Ness, Jr of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren Jennifer (Skip) Mitchell of Thayer, IA, Elizabeth (Reid) Evans of Pella, IA, Heath (Nelline) Henning of Bellevue, WA, Jeremy Ray (Leah) Henning of Half Moon Bay, CA, Michelle (Christopher) Milam of Des Moines, IA, Stephanie Cooper of Des Moines, IA, with ten VERY SPECIAL Great Grandchildren; sisters-in-law Janice Downey-Johnson of Camdenton, MO, Harla Jean Countryman of Surprise, AZ and many more relatives and friends.
