The Ringgold County Conservation Board used a grant from the Ringgold Foundation to upgrade a bridge on the Ringgold Trail.
This past winter, the Ringgold County Conservation Board resurfaced the Ringgold Trailway tressel bridge to remove the trip hazard of the old bridge planks and railroad ties.
The trail on the east side of the bridge was also closed at the end of December while the bridge in the middle of the two-mile trail along side Poe Hollow Park was repaired.
The new bridge surface is made of composite decking material, providing a smoother transition between the paved trail and the bridge.
Renovation of the trestle bridge over the Ringgold Trailway was made possible by a $25,000 Ringgold Foundation grant awarded to the Ringgold County Conservation Board last summer.
Each year, the Ringgold Foundation makes grants available to 501(c)3 organizations, 170(c)(1) government organizations like fire departments, ambulance, libraries, parks, and organizations that serve Ringgold County through the county endowment fund program.
Grant funding comes from a variety of sources, including a percentage of the state’s gaming tax revenue, which is distributed to community foundations in the 85 counties that do not hold a state issued gaming license.
The Ringgold Foundation grants 75 percent of those funds to charitable projects within their counties and places the remaining 25 percent in a permanent endowment fund, which is intended to attract other donations and provide a source of permanent funding for charitable projects within the county.
Individuals, families and area businesses who want to give back and support local communities across Ringgold County, can provide financial gifts through a variety of charitable giving fund options.
The Ringgold Foundation also helps ensure that charitable legacies continues for generations to come. Whether working with them directly or through a trusted professional advisor, they help people meet their giving goals and make Ringgold County better together.
Grant selections are then made in an effort to create a better quality of life for people in Ringgold County.
Generally, they do not fund existing debt, operating expenses, salaries, or labor, consumable items, freight, or shipping.
The local governing committee reviews the applications from charitable organizations serving their community. Advisory board members for the Ringgold Foundation include Kristen Akers, Ann Schlapia, Michele Beck, Barb Stephens, and Tracy Barnes.
Partnering with Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines to facilitate the grant making process, online grant applications are being accepted now through May 15, 2024. Grants will be awarded at the Ringgold County Fair on July 10, 2024.
