To the editor:
I would like to nominate South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem for the Cruella de Vil award, de Vil denotes a person of words cruel and evil and with her new memoir, “No Going Back,” she appears to meet the criteria.
Disney fans will remember Cruella de Vil from the book and movie “101 Dalmatians.” an evil woman with cruel designs on Dalmatian puppies.
In her book, Ms. Noem relates how she killed her dog, Cricket, a German Wirehaired Pointer, that she characterized as “untrainable,” “dangerous to anyone she came in contact with,” and “less than worthless. . .as a hunting dog.” However, her real reason for killing Cricket was in her own words, “I hated that dog.” She took Cricket to a gravel pit on her ranch and shot her.
Dog lovers all over the country were horrified, and like CBS Morning Show Host Tony Dokoupil, wondered if Cricket was wagging her tail when she was led to her death.
Ms. Noem claims to be an animal trainer. If so, I would like to recommend the book by the famed animal trainer Barbara Woodhouse “No Bad Dogs, Dog Training My Way.”
The American Kennel Club describes German Wirehaired Pointers as “energetic and eager to please, and in temperament affectionate and friendly.”
Real dog trainers make the point that at 14 months Cricket was still a puppy. German Wirehaired Pointers like Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers are characterized as sporting breeds and retain their puppy behaviors well into their second year
Having dispatched Cricket, the governor looked around and decided she needed to put down her “goat” too as he was “nasty and mean,” and he smelled like “a goat.” So, she dragged him down to the gravel pit and shot him, [it gets worse, folks] she had to shoot him twice as he jumped out of the way, so she went back to the truck and reloaded her gun.
Looking up she saw that a construction crew had witnessed her killing of the animals. They promptly got back to work. About that time, the school bus with her children arrived, Kennedy looked around and said, “Hey where’s Cricket?”
Political analysts believe the book was an attempt to portray her as a strong decisive leader and a possible VP on the Trump ticket. So, it is not surprising that the books contain Trump style false hoods, for instance her claim, that as a congresswoman, she met North Korean dictator Kim Chong Un, not true so despite her books title, “No Going Back,” she is going back, blaming editors and proofreaders.
Unfortunately for Cricket, there was “No Going Back.” A word to the wise for interns and staffers working in the governor’s office and for those whose body odor might make them small like a “goat,” wear all over body deodorant and above all else, stay away from the gravel pit.
