Benton Church Notes~ Ford and buggy day was a real success. The Sunday school reached the highest attendance in years. Owen Schlapia arrived first with eleven in his Ford and we felt sure he would win the prize. In a few minutes Beatrice Landes drove in with seventeen and it looked as though she could not be beat, but there is always someone to do just a little better. When Esther Wallace arrived with her faithful Ford, there were 28 in and around it. She won the prize. Earl Roden won the prize when he came with a one seated buggy with seven.
For the first time in this law abiding community interest and curiosity were awakened locally in the activities of the Ku Klux Klan last evening when a meeting was held in the pasture west of the barn on the farm occupied by Ira Miller west of Mount Ayr.
Automobiles in large numbers were seen driving into the pasture and the highways were lined with cars whose occupants, impelled from a distance the activities. It was estimated that more than one hundred cars provided a border for the inner circle and that probably 400 persons were present to hear the lecture delivered by a gentleman from Columbus, OH.

There is one Mount Ayr resident who can lay claim to these things, though. Mildred Elliott has served on 3 different policy-making boards under four past governors since 1961.
