Thomas Ralph Weigel, 82, died August 22, 2024, at Azira Health, Des Moines, Iowa. He was born October 11, 1941, to Charles Vincent and Cora Elizabeth (Robinet) Weigel. He was welcomed home by three brothers, all under the age of 4. His first years were spent around the Polk City area until his parents purchased a farm in Ellston in the 1950s. He attended school in Ellston and Kellerton before joining the Navy.
On his leave home, he met Ruby Pearl Houghman and they married on March 7, 1960, within a week of meeting. They were married 62 years and had three children: Corina, Thomas II, Herbert.
In the early years of their marriage, he farmed in Ellston. Then left the farm to become a diesel mechanic until he lost his eyesight. After attending the Iowa Department of the Blind, he set up a shop and made duck calls. He and Ruby drove to sports shows and it became a privilege to have one of his duck calls.
He is survived by his children: Corina Morris, Thomas II (Kristi), and Herbert (Cinnamon), 8 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, sister, Kathy (Terry) Baker, brothers Dan (Pam) Weigel, sister-in-law, Bonnie Ikrea and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby, his parents, his brothers Charles, Richard, Paul and his sister Carol Wolfe, and son-in-law, Kenneth Morris. Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr is in charge of the arrangements.
