To the editor:
There is no doubt that Donald Trump and the Republican party, as a whole, won the election. The question is why.
Democratic party members as well as the media and political pundits have, since the election, assigned blame for Trump’s victory to a number of institutions and individuals.
I hold Trump was awarded victory by individuals who chose to prioritize their own self-interest rather than vote for results which would have produced what was best for the country as a whole.
My father once told me that when one is employed, they are obligated to do what their employer tells them to do, unless that order is immoral or illegal. Interesting (since he held high rank as a police officer and in the Iowa National Guard) is that he placed immoral before illegal, as the only circumstances when one was obligated to disobey an employer.
It would seem fair to assume, based on Trump’s own words, his new administration will employ the same type of individual as in his first administration.
I doubt there will be many in Trumps’ new administration who will act contrary to anything Trump tells them to do.
