Darrell Wayne Stewart

Darrell Wayne Stewart, born December 4, 1948, in Creston, Iowa, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication. He was the son of Warren Stewart and Ramona Shiflett.
Darrell grew up in Mount Ayr, Iowa, and graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1967. Following graduation, he answered the call to serve his country, as a paratrooper in Alaska during the Vietnam War. His time in the military was a source of immense pride, and he carried that honor with him throughout his life.
In 1970, Darrell married Judy Brammer, and together they built a family, welcoming their son, Russell Stewart, and daughter, Tracy Foster. For 20 years, Darrell worked tirelessly as a farmer in Mount Ayr, providing for his family and embracing the hard work that came with the land. Later in life, he transitioned to a career as a truck driver, where he continued to embody the values of perseverance and dedication. During this time, he was married to Nora Heitman.
After Nora’s passing, Darrell moved back home to Maloy, Iowa, where he began his strong fight with cancer. During this period, he spent a great amount of time at Dave and Sheila’s home, where Sheila’s grandchildren grew to love him and affectionately referred to him as “Darald.”
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Warren Stewart and Ramona Shiflett; his stepfather, Jack Shiflett; his brothers, Dickie, Steve, and Jim; and his beloved grandson, Trent Stewart.

He leaves behind his son, Russell (Jackie) Stewart, and grandchildren Megann, and Hallee and great grandson Tegan; his daughter, Tracy (Bryan) Foster, and grandsons Kyler and Bryson; his sister, Sheila (Dave) Stewart; and his brother, David (Cathy) Shiflett. His family and friends will forever cherish the memories of his strength, humor, and unwavering love.
Darrell’s legacy of service, hard work, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
The family would like to thank EveryStep Hospice and Clearview Home for their excellent care of Darrell.
