Larry Bert Grose

Larry Bert Grose
Larry Bert Grose, son of Bert Clifford Grose and Mary Tennessee (Glick) Grose, was born on July 6, 1950, in Creston, Iowa, and passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the Mount Ayr Healthcare Center in Mount Ayr, Iowa, at the age of 74.
A lifelong resident of Ringgold County, Larry attended school in Kellerton and graduated from Grand Valley High School. He continued his education at Southwestern Community College. On September 5, 1971, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Thomas, and together they raised three children: Angela, David, and Jennifer.
Larry was a dedicated farmer who took great pride in working the land. He also worked at Crestline Windows in Leon for 23 years until its closing and later at Industrial Hardfacing in Lamoni for seven years. A devoted father and grandfather, Larry cherished every moment spent with his family. He had a deep love for card games, especially cribbage, Shanghai, and Yahtzee, and was a regular member of a local poker group.
He was happiest outdoors, enjoying fishing, deer and coyote hunting, and woodworking. Larry and Cheryl shared many joyful years square dancing with the “Cow Patty Stompers” and later spent winters in Texas during retirement. Even during his time at Mount Ayr Healthcare Center, Larry found purpose and joy in caring for the flower garden, bringing beauty and happiness to others.
Larry will be remembered for his warmth, sense of humor, and the deep love he had for his family and community. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Mary Grose, and his sister-in-law, Nancy Grose.
Larry is survived by his children: Angela (Gabe) Kolesari of Elkhart, IA; David (Jennie) Grose of Winterset, IA; and Jennifer Grose of Norwalk, IA; his grandchildren: Matthew (Megan) Kolesari of Washington, Kenzie Kolesari of Wisconsin, Caleb (Beth) Grose of Grimes, IA, Elysabeth (Dexter) Johnson of Winterset, IA, and Abigail Grose of Norwalk, IA; and great-grandchildren: Tommy Kolesari, Crew Johnson, and Juniper Johnson.
