(From the Mount Ayr Record-News,Thursday, May 27, 1925.)Three thrilling aerial events have been booked as special attractions for next Wednesday’s Bargain Day in Mount Ayr. Contract has been made with Ray Shifflet, world’s champion stunt pilot, and Curly Smith, world’s campion parachute jumper, to present their spectacular flying circus. There will be three events~stunt flying at 11 a.m., wing walking at 3 p.m. and parachute drop from an altitude of 2,000 feet at 5:30 p.m.
Investigation by Sheriff Stephens and County Attorney Hayes of the burning of the tenant house on the Mrs. Alida Zwick farm, one mile north of Blackmore, early Monday morning of last week resulted in the indictment of E.D. Elston by the grand jury which was in session Wednesday. The arrest of Elston at Perry followed and Sheriff Stephens went after him, brought him back to Mount Ayr and when arraigned before Judge Fuller, Elston entered a plea of guilty to arson and was given an indeterminate sentence of not to exceed 10 years in the penitentiary in Fort Dodge.
Suspicion was aroused Monday when it was learned that a policy of insurance on the household goods had been delivered to Elston who occupied the house, Saturday and investigation by the officers led to the finding of many of the articles insured packed in a trunk and suit case in an automobile which was left at a garage in Kellerton. The articles were brought to Mount Ayr and presented as evidence before the grand jury.

Doyle Hunter and John Monaghan this week received appointments as rural route carriers on Route #1 and Route #2 respectively, out of Mount Ayr.
The Mount Ayr Public Library recenctly received a check for $36.25, the donors being fellow employees of the late H.C. Beard, membger of the state board of social welfare, who requested that the money be used to purchase books as a memorial tribute to Mr. Beard.

Scott Rusk son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rusk of Mount Ayr and Kris Nichols son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Nichols of Mount Ayr have been selected by the Mount Ayr American Legion post #172 to attend boys state.
A sculpture of a head by David Roed won top prize at the second annual fine arts at Mount Ayr Community school.
Celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary are Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Fox.
Runyon fans 16 as Raiders drop 2-1 opener. The Mount Ayr Raiders dropped their baseball opener here Friday night in a battle of unearned runs. The Diagonal Maroons won the contest 2-1 as pitchers Ken Runyon for Mount Ayr and Tim Turner of Diagonal pretty well handcuffed the batters.
In fact there were just three hits total in the game, which indicates the effectiveness of the two hurlers.

Elliott pulls out victory at state track meet. Senior Brad Elliott became only the fifth Raider in history and the first one in more than twenty years to bring home a 1st place in a state track event.
Ringgold county courthouse held their open house last Thursday with visitors getting a tour of the courthouse. The tour included a chance to ride the new elevator, visit the new assessor’s office on second floor and the new handicapped accessible restroom located on the ground floor. When the tour reached the second floor, refresments were served.
Vanessa Storhoff of Mount Ayr has been selected by the Mount Ayr American Legion Auxilary Unit #172 to attend the 55th annual session of the Iowa American Legion Auxilary Girls State.
Mother’s Day was a great day for fishing for Shaun Walkup, 13 years, of Diagonal. The son of Bob and Misty Walkup was using beejay catfish bait at a farm pond near Afton when he hauled in two huge catfish, one that was 31” and one that was 26”.

The Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church in the Middle Fork township will hold a celebration service this Sunday June 7 to mark the closing of the church which was dedicated in 1889. The final service at Hickory Grove will take place June 21.
Kyle Dolecheck had a big day at the state track meet recently. He won the 800 meter run to become a two-time state champion in the event.
