SHERRY EXLEY GREENE

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sherry Exley Greene, who died peacefully on May 23, 2025, at the age of 67, at the Comfort House in Pella, Iowa. A celebration of life gathering will be held on Friday, May 30th, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., at Pierschbacher’s in Knoxville, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Sherry’s memory to the Marion County Humane Society or the Knoxville Federated Garden Club, in support of the Bessie Spaur Butterfly Garden. A private family burial will take place at a later date at Ellston Cemetery in Ellston, Iowa.
Sherry Belle Exley was born on August 17, 1957, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Dale and Dorothy Exley. She was raised in Chariton, Iowa, where she graduated from high school. On September 4, 1984, she married the love of her life, Craig Greene. They welcomed their daughter, Melissa, on September 2, 1986.
Sherry worked in telecommunications throughout her career, including many years with Windstream, before retiring. She had a passion for cooking and baking, was a certified Master Gardener and Master Conservationist, and found great joy being near lakes and oceans. Above all, Sherry cherished her family and friends deeply.
A devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend, Sherry will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
After a courageous battle with cancer, Sherry passed away surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Craig Greene; her daughter, Melissa Greene, and Melissa’s fiancé, David McDermid; her brother, Brian Exley (Marilyn); and many other cherished family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Dorothy Exley, as well as numerous beloved aunts and uncles.
