A waterfowl which had lost it’s bearings while on its way to the southland was captured Monday evening on the porch at the H.M. Miller home in the south part of the city. The bird probably mistaking the water on the paving for an appropriate place to rest, had evidentally wandered about until it alighted on a chair on the porch at the Miller home, where blinded by the light from the window, it became bewildered and when discovered had not sufficiently recovered itself to be able to make a getaway before it was captured by Mr. Miller’s nephew Ed Hoover. A second later Mr. Hoover discovered the bird was equipped with a means of defense and the penalty suffered for the capture was an injury to the finger inflicted by the operation of the birds bill. The bird was being exhibited on the street yesterday and opinon differed as to the species, some saying it was a cormorant, while others frankly said they didn’t know. The bird tallies with the description of the Shearwater contained in the latest edition of Websters dictionary.
