Jordan Crawford. Senior Housing and Volunteer Coordinator
Why are you uniquely qualified as Mount Ayr city mayor?
I’m uniquely qualified to serve as mayor because of the energy I will bring to important topics, accountability for myself and those community leaders I work with and willingness to collaborate with fellow community members to keep Mount Ayr thriving for future generations.
I have lived in Mount Ayr all my life. I have seen classmates come and go and businesses start up and businesses close here. I have witnessed our community rally together and have seen our community torn apart by challenges. My dedication to this position starts with making sure Mount Ayr thrives for our younger generation growing up in our schools and giving them a sense of what a hometown should be all that way to those that choose to retire in our beautiful community. The common goal for why I’m uniquely qualified for this position is to work together for our community goals of having a safe, thriving and welcoming place to call home.
Why did you decide to run for mayor?
I decided to run for mayor because our residents deserve a mayor that takes pride in this position and works for them. I see the potential the city has, and we must act in the direction of progress to take us there. With issues such as affordable housing to support local jobs and infrastructure. I want to work for our city, for the betterment of our residence. Our city deserves leadership that listens to issues, understands the issue from multiple perspectives and act to find the solution. I work for a local business in this city, I have lived my entire life in this city. I have hours of community service through clubs and volunteering in this city. I am ready to give back to this community through compassionate service and leadership.
Please list your top three priorities as Mount Ayr mayor.
My top three would include:
Infrastructure and public service roads
Transparency, and good governance
Economic development
These three topics are in no particular order, but are all as equally as important for leadership in this city. As these will be my priorities as I serve the members of this community.
Infrastructure and public service roads because this is the backbone of our daily lives in Mount Ayr. We need to fix potholes, fix brick roads off of the square, improve sidewalks/curbs, improving snow removal, and public facilities. Our day-to-day life needs to be just as as our dreams of growth, if we don’t have the foundation right, then we will crumble as we continue to grow.
Transparency and good governance because the residents deserve open communication about decisions that affect them. I would like to propose streaming meetings, starting newsletters and having online updates to inform our community about projects, decisions, and issues. This will allow the community to hold me accountable and for me to hold our community leaders accountable. This will also showcase fiscal responsibility and highlights, smart budgeting that has clear reporting on where tax dollars go.
Economic development because small towns often struggle with job loss and youth, leaving for bigger cities we need to continue to attract small businesses and support local.
