FORT DODGE, Iowa — Mount Ayr senior Addison Doolittle had a weekend last week as she competed at the Class 1A state cross-country meet in Ford Dodge last Saturday. The Raiderette qualified for the state meet out of their Central Decatur state qualifying meet. Doolittle was one of many Pride of Iowa Conference runners at the state meet for both boys and girls.
Doolittle placed 94th, pretty much right in the middle of the total runners at the meet, in a time of 21:57. She was the sixth POI runner in the Class 1A field to finish at state. Nodaway Valley sophomore and POI champion Gabe Winkelmann led POI finishers with a 36th place finish in 17:17. Nodaway Valley qualified as a team and placed 15th and there were ten total Pride of Iowa Conference runners in the Class 1A field.
Martensdale-St. Marys senior Karson Oberender and POI Champion, was the top POI finisher with a fourth place finish in 18:50 at state. The Blue Devils qualified as a team in the 1A field and placed sixth with 180 points. There were a total of 10 POI runners in the Class 1A field.
Top ranked South Winneshiek won the Class 1A team title with 125 points. Second ranked Sumner-Fredericksburg was the runner-up team with 136 points and eighth ranked Hudson pulled off the biggest upset placing third with a team score of 143. Hudson passed 7th ranked Earlham, 6th ranked Madrid, 5th ranked Martensdale-St. Marys, 4th ranked Newell-Fonda, and 3rd ranked Sioux Central to claim third place.
Individually there were 158 runners at the meet. Council Bluffs St. Albert won the 1A title placing first in a time of 17:56 while Chloe Glosser from Pekin was second in 18:33. Denton’s teammate Lauren Krogmann was third in a time of 18:34.
Doolittle is one of four seniors from this year’s Mount Ayr team who will graduate. The others are Ashlyn Byer, Ava England and Kacie Larsen. Back next year will be Ryley Greenwell and sophomore-to-be Irais Trujillo.
