Obituary: Doug Prime
Doug Prime, 86, of Kellerton, Iowa, formerly of Humboldt, passed away November 7, 2025, upon arrival at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr, Iowa. A visitation will be held at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 12 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with burial to follow in Maple Row Cemetery at Kellerton, Iowa. On March 23, 1939, Lyle Eugene Austin was born to Cecil and Florence Austin in Mason City, Iowa. When he was 3 years old, he was adopted by Claude and Laurell (Carlson) Prime and was raised in Humboldt, Iowa. At this time, his name was changed to Douglas Arthur Prime.
Doug was married and had 2 sons: Jeff and Tony. Doug remarried and adopted Mark and Lisa. Doug then had a son and named him Douglas, Jr.
Doug met LaDonna while talking on the C.B. radio going down the interstate in January of 1980. They were married October 25, 1980, and had just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. When Doug was 45, he was able to reunite with members of his biological family. He found out at that time that he was one of thirteen children, and Doug became the last living child of his siblings.
Over the years, Doug had several jobs which included truck driving and working for Iowa Select Farms from which he retired. Doug volunteered for different volunteer fire departments. He also obtained his First Responders and E.M.T. certification. Doug was an active volunteer for the Kellerton First Responders for almost 30 years. Doug enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife LaDonna Prime, children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren and a new great great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his biological parents; adopted parents; 12 siblings; parents-in-law Don and Helen Laird; daughter-in-law Leisha Prime; sister-in-law Kathy Rains.
