MOUNT AYR, Iowa — The Ringgold County Development group saw one of its projects take another step toward completion on December 16.
A nearly complete new manufactured home was delivered to the recently cleared site at 503 West Monroe Street in Mount Ayr.
Crews from Homes for Iowa eased the three bedroom, two bath structure onto its foundation having traveled a long distance from its manufacturing location near Newton, Iowa as single complete home. An interesting side note regarding this home is that the home was manufactured by inmates of the Iowa Department of Corrections.
Inmates are trained in the skills needed to produce viable well built housing for needy communities across Iowa.
According to Homes for Iowa, inmates receive much needed skills training which has been shown to dramatically reduce the recidivism rate among inmates while providing much needed affordable housing for towns across the state.
The home will have a two-car garage attached when the weather permits additional foundation work to be done.
The work is scheduled for completion sometime in the spring of 2026 and will be offered for sale by the Development group themselves.
Pricing was not available at this time of this publication, but according to Nicole McGinnis, Director Ringgold County Development, more information will be made available sometime in January.
