MOUNT AYR, Iowa — Work has begun on the new CTE center being constructed on the south side of the Mount Ayr High School property.
Crews were busy laying the forms to allow for the pouring of the foundation that will support the new structure.
“We’re trying to take advantage of the mild weather when we can,” stated site Superintendent Jim Tague.
The crews will be laying out the foundation forms and hoping to get the initial pours concluded before the weather makes a turn for the worse. Additionally, the crews are expecting the delivery of the materials to complete the structure itself in the next few weeks. The materials will consist of three to five tractor trailer loads that will be dropped on the grounds of the center.
Once the external structure is erected, the crews will be able to return to the task of pouring the floors for the center. Because the structure itself will provide cover for this phase of the project, it was deemed preferable to wait until weather is generally more favorable as they head into spring.
All indications are that the project is proceeding on time and on budget. The center is slated for opening sometime in the fall of 2026 in time for the next school year. Updates will be provided as the project continues enabling the Mount Ayr community to keep up on this important addition to both the Mount Ayr Community Schools and the Diagonal school district.
