MOUNT AYR, Iowa — The Ringgold County Emergency Management Commission and Southern Iowa Council of Governments invite residents and other interested parties in Ringgold County to attend a hazard mitigation planning meeting to be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, February 17 on the first floor of the Ringgold County Courthouse.
This meeting is very important to the development of a five-year plan. The entire county, including all towns, schools and the hospital, are invited to be involved in the plan. Once the plan is approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), it makes the participating local governments eligible for grant funds to implement projects that protect people and property. Such projects are tornado shelters, warning sirens, backup power generators and flood control systems.
Anyone with interest in this topic or who might have ideas and thoughts about how to protect the public and property from disasters like floods, tornadoes, thunderstorms, and severe winter storms is asked to attend this one-hour meeting.
There will also be a community survey that will remain open through at least February 15. It asks questions about different disasters and your opinion about hazard issues. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. Please call or email Jeremy Rounds at SICOG at 641-782-8491 or rounds@sicog.com or Melissia Stark at Ringgold County Emergency Management at 641-464-3344 or mstark@ringgoldcounty.us.
