Obituary: Shelby Duaine Bullock

Shelby Duaine Bullock was born in Carthage, Missouri on March 21, 1943, to Gaylen and Shelby Marie (Floyd) Bullock. He grew up with his brothers Gene and Douglas and sister Carol. Shelby served in the US Army from 1964 to 1966, with time spent in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged and went to work for the railroad. Shelby then worked for 40 years at Wellman Dynamics in Creston.
Shelby was the father to Shelby Ryan and Patricia. Shelby was united in marriage to Joanne Earley on January 6, 2004, in Creston, Iowa. Shelby became the stepfather to Desirea and Dallas
Shelby loved hunting, golf, and fishing. Shelby would always tell his wife she was cheating at fishing as when she would say, “Here fishy, fish”, she would then catch a fish every time.
In Shelby’s final years, he helped with his wife’s daycare. All of the daycare kids loved their grandpa.
Shelby passed away at his home in Mount Ayr on February 15, 2026, with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Shelby Ryan Bullock and his daughter Patricia Bullock-Gipple.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Joanne Bullock of Mount Ayr, IA; stepchildren Desirea Hammers-Fuller and Dallas Earley; 7 grandchildren Ben Gipple, Anna Gipple, Kaitlynn Fuller, Conner Fuller, Sebastian Burger, Lux Brinker, Genevieve Earley; siblings Gene (Linda) Bullock of Ellston, IA, Doug (Theola) Bullock of Creston, IA, Carol (Jack) Whited of Afton, IA; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with services beginning at 11 a.m. at the Ellston United Methodist Church in Ellston, Iowa. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Ellston Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in his name to be decided by his family.
