MOUNT AYR, Iowa — The Mount Ayr Community School District Board of Education approved the upcoming tax levy and received updates on various district building and grounds updates during its regular monthly meeting on Monday.
The tax levy for the upcoming year was approved by the board as it saw a slight decrease from last year’s levy.
On the topic of building and grounds the board was given an update on the new CTE Center as it continues moving toward a late spring completion time frame. Concrete is scheduled to be be poured on the south side of the building along with the north side to be poured on Thursday. The building has been encased with roof panels and wall panels with the inside work starting in areas such as HVAC, electrical and the garage door installation. The board is looking at the end of May for an unofficial ribbon cutting and grand opening. With the official ceremony taking place when the students begin classes in August.
The softball field has been brought up to date with new sod, along with getting rid of the humps in the infield and outfield. The dirt was also replaced.
The summer lunch program was also discussed in the meeting with the first one taking place June 2 and continuing every Tuesday in June and one Tuesday in July.
The girls wrestling was brought up when reviewing staff salaries with possibilities to be discussed later of expanding the staffing due to the recent influx of participants and growth of the program in which the board attributed to head coach Mitch Doolittle.
