MOUNT AYR, Iowa — The Mount Ayr Volunteer Fire Department will have new leadership following the annual officer election meeting. Ed Rotert, the long time assistant chief, was elevated to Chief.
Rotert will replace Mike Wimer who held that role for 17 years. Wimer will remain active with the department and continue to provide mentorship to all those on the volunteer staff.
Rotert is also in charge of the elite Mount Ayr Rescue and Dive team that operates out of the Mount Ayr fire house. In addition to Rotert, the team elected Kurt Larson as the new assistant chief and Mike Wik as the new secretary-treasurer.
All other existing systems and procedures are staying place with Rotert being the command leader in the field and the voice representing the department in all things administratively and technically.
The Record News was unable to contact Rotert as of press time for comment.
