Raiderettes finish second at state meet, wins 3 events

DES MOINES, Iowa — It was an outstanding trip to Iowa’s capital city last weekend for the Mount Ayr girl’s track and field team as they placed second in Class 1A with 49 team points. There was a fight for second place with the Raiderettes, Council Bluffs St. Albert and Pekin. Ed-Co won the 1A title with 57 points. St. Albert finished four points back of Mount Ayr with 45 points and Pekin was five points back in fourth place with 44 points.
The Raiderettes won three events at the state meet — one individual and two relay events.
Aubree Shields won the high jump state championship with a best jump of 5-feet, 5-inches.
In relays, Mount Ayr won the sprint medley relay title behind the team of Chloe Robb, Brittlyn Nickle, Shields and Emma Reynolds in a time of 1:47.80. That time was a new state meet record and the 17th fastest time in Iowa this year for any class.
The Raiderettes also won the 4×400-meter relay with the team of Tatum Friedrich, Kacie Larsen, Shields and Reynolds in a time of 3:59.84. The relay team also had the top time in the prelims.
In individual races, Reynolds was the runner-up in the 400-meter dash in 57.54 and placed fourth in the 200-meter dash in 25.42 to give her four medals at the state meet.
Shields also was sixth in the 400-meter dash in 58.93 to also earn four medals. Emily Knox placed 6th in the shot put with a top throw of 37-feet, 1.75 inches.
Other relay finishes for Mount Ayr were 12th in the 4×800-meter relay in 10:14.68 with the team of Ryley Greenwell, Larsen, Friedrich and Addison Doolittle. The Raiderettes came in 13th in the sprint medley in 4:25.02 with the team of Robb, Nickle, Larsen and Friedrich. Mount Ayr also placed 18th in the 4×100 in 51.61 with the team of Robb, Worthington, Kate Newton and Nickle.
Mount Ayr graduates Alexa Bailey, Ashlyn Byer, Addison Doolittle, Ava England, Kacie Larsen, Sayuri Meadors, Kaely Murphy and Aubree Shields from this year’s team.
