Tanner Richardson, 19, of Tingley, died Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines due to injuries sustained in a car accident. Celebration of Life Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Sheila Sutton will officiate. Services will be livestreamed at a link under his obituary. Burial will be at a later date at Grove Chapel Cemetery south of Creston. Open visitation with family receiving friends will be 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Wednesday, prior to services at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family. Tanner James Richardson, son of Emily Jeanne (Riepe) and Manuel Luke Richardson, was born on December 10, 2006, in Creston. During his educational journey, Tanner was involved in the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, where he developed skills and values that would guide him throughout his life. He attended Creston and East Union schools and graduated with East Union’s class of 2025. He was very excited about continuing his education in the electrical technology program to start this fall at SWCC.
Tanner was a very strong-willed person and had a great work ethic. He had previously worked at Wellman Dynamics in Creston along with various construction and concrete jobs. Most recently he was employed at Osceola Foods in Osceola. His passion was working on anything mechanical, especially his friend Adrian Lillie’s racecar. Either way, he was always found enjoying the company of his friends and family or his girlfriend, Jersey. His enthusiasm for life and unwavering dedication to his interests were clear to those around him.
He is survived by his parents, Emily (stepfather Larry) Borts of Tingley and Manuel Richardson of Des Moines; brother, Carter Richardson of Tingley; step-brother, Sean Borts of Knoxville; step-sister, Brianna Owens of Mingo; his girlfriend, Jersey Pettegrew of Osceola; grandparents, Darlene and Raymond Winterstein of Creston, Michael and Diane Richardson of Lamoni, Nora Borts of Mingo and Morry Coleman of Des Moines; special aunt, Bonnie Riepe of Arispe; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and numerous friends.
Preceding him in death is his grandfathers, James Riepe and Larry Borts, Sr.; great-grandfather, John Riepe; his aunt, Desiree Lopez and great-aunt, Kara Riepe.
