LEON, Iowa — Weather forced the postponement of the original date of the Central Decatur Invitational due to high heat temperatures with uncomfortable dew points and humidity caused the postponement last Tuesday. The meet was moved to two days later to September 10 for Mount Ayr runners to open their season.
In the girls race, Chariton won the meet with a team score of 15 followed by Central Decatur in second with 50 points and Mount Ayr in third with 67 points. There were 50 girls running in the varsity race.
Kinsey Prunty from Wayne won the race in a time of 20:25. Kate Krutsinger from Chariton was second in 21:40 and Nodaway Valley’s Abby Nelson placed third in 22:07. Mount Ayr was led by two, top-15 finishers. Ryley Greenwell placed 12th in 23:45 and Alice Briner placed 13th in 23:50 to lead the Raiderettes. Other Mount Ayr finishers were Irais Trujillo 23rd in 26:09, Alba Friedrich 25th in 26:28, Kinsley Greenwell 36th in 29:24, Chloe Robb 48th in 34:28 and Ryleigh Rumple 49th in 34:40.
On the boy’s side, Chariton won the meet with 31 points followed by Nodaway Valley in second with 44 points and Shenandoah third with 60 points. There were 76 boys runners in the varsity meet. Chariton claimed the top-3 finishers in the race led by champion Lucas Anderson in first in a time of 16:09. Mount Ayr did not have enough runners to factor in the team race at the meet.
The Raiders had four runners at the meet led by Max Graves led with a 42nd place finish in 22:19. Other Mount Ayr finishers were Braxton McAlexander 57th in 24:58, Mason Starmer 58th in 24:59, and Kellon Shaffer 67th in 27:02.
Both Mount Ayr teams run at one meet this week scheduled for Thursday at Interstate-35. Teams there will be Creston, Des Moines Christian, Des Moines Hoover, Saydel, SE Warren and Interstate-35.
