Raiderettes drop first conference match of season

MOUNT AYR, Iowa — The Raiderette volleyball team suffered their first Pride of Iowa Conference match loss last Tuesday at home when SE Warren was in town. Mount Ayr lost 3-0 to the visiting Warhawks. Mount Ayr fell to 2-7 overall while SE Warren improved to 7-2 with the win.
The win was the second in a row and fourth win in the last five meetings between the two schools. Mount Ayr will host the Raiderette Volleyball Tournament on Saturday with Centerville, Clarke, Interstate-35, Lamoni, Martensdale-St. Marys and Shenandoah will be in attendance.
Mount Ayr had 34 kills on 94 attacks in the match. Payton Worthington had 12 kills while Dannie Stewart had six to lead the Raiderettes. Jaylee Shaffer led in assists with 25. Stewart led in digs with 15 while Mackenzie Jackson and Emily Knox each had 11. As a team, Mount Ayr served 58-for-64 with three aces. Adley Dredge led going 18-for-20 with three aces.
The first two sets against the Warhawks, Mount Ayr played a pair of close sets. SE Warren won the first set 25-21 to take a 1-0 match lead. SE Warren took a 2-0 match lead, winning a highly contested second set, 27-25 to take a commanding 2-0 match lead. SE Warren took the match, winning the third set, 25-18 to get the sweep.
