MOUNT AYR, Iowa – A who’s who from around the county gathered to ring in another year of accomplishments and good deeds for the community at the Ringgold County Outdoor Alliance annual banquet Saturday night at the American Legion building in Mount Ayr.
The Outdoor Alliance oversees the facilities at Loch Ayr Lake along with the help from the City of Mount Ayr and the Department of Natural Resources. The organization recently took an active role in organizing the repainting of the Peggy Whitson commemorative rock on the Ringgold County Courthouse lawn by local artist Bubba Sorensen. Once Sorensen completed the repainting, a brand new permanent cover was built to protect this wonderful attraction on the square. There is a Community Garden which also operates with the help of the Outdoor Alliance and helps to providedneeded food stuffs to area community members.
All of these improvements and construction projects were done with dollars donated by the community working with the Outdoor Alliance. The banquet itself was a great success. There was a wonderful dinner, door prizes, raffles and a few games of chance that served as a fund raiser for the Alliance. Marilyn Sudduth once again provided a beautiful handmade quilt for the auction which was prominently displayed behind the podium on center stage. This handmade master piece generated a $1,000 high bid.
In a piece of unscripted excitement, banquet goers were treated to an amazing comeback win by the Iowa Hawkeyes over their conference rival Michigan Wolverines with a last second touchdown pass to seal the 20 to 19 victory. Anxious viewers were gathered around the small screen perched above the bar area and erupted in raucous applause as the time on the clock read 00 with Iowa sealing the deal. The Alliance has a number of additional events scheduled throughout the fall as hunting season approaches. Additional information can be found on the Ringgold County Outdoor Alliance Facebook page.
