CORYDON, Iowa — The Mount Ayr boys and girls cross-country teams ran at a pair of meets last week at both Creston and Wayne.
At Wayne, the Mount Ayr girls placed fifth with 115 team points. Chariton won the team race with 34 points while Interstate-35 was second with 74 points and Martensdale-St. Marys was third with 75 points. There were 75 runners in the girls race.
Ryley Greenwell led the Raiderettes with a 14th place finish in 22:07. Alice Briner was next in 16th place in 22:29. Other Mount Ayr finishers were Tatum Friedrich 34th in 24:48, Irais Trujillo 39th in 25:17, Alba Friedrich 41st in 25:23, Kinsley Greenwell 52nd in 26:30, Mia Tseng 56th in 27:27 and Ryleigh Rumple 72nd in 32:44.
The Raider boys placed 10th out of 12 teams at Wayne with 264 points. Austin Briner led Raider finishers with a 42nd place finish in 21:42. Max Graves placed 50th in 22:16. Other Mount Ayr finishers were Mason Starmer 69th in 24:09, Braxton McAlexander 72nd in 24:57 and Kellon Shaffer 73rd in 25:02. Lucas Anderson from Chariton won the race in a time of 15:43. There were 93 runners in the boys race. Chariton won the meet with a team score of 21 points. Central Decatur was second with 74 points and Martensdale-St. Marys was third with 109 points.
The Mount Ayr team ran at Creston on September 18 and the girls placed fifth with 97 points. Mount Ayr was led by a 7th place finish by Ryley Greenwell in 22:25 and Alice Briner placed 12th in 22:50. Other Mount Ayr finishers were Tatum Friedrich 23rd in 24:13, Kinsley Greenwell 26th in 25:09, Alba Friedrich 29th in 25:32, Irais Trujillo 31st in 25:40 and Ryleigh Rumple 38th in 29:12. Creston won the girls race with a team score of 42 followed by Earlham in second with 62 points and Martensdale-St. Marys third with 74 points. Creston’s Reese Strunk won the race in 20:11. There were 68 runners in the girls race.
In the middle school race, Mount Ayr was led by Annie Larsen placing 9th in 13:02.
On the boy’s side, Creston won the meet with 39 points while Nodaway Valley was the runner-up team with 47 points. Red Oak placed third with 90 points. Red Oak senior Emmanuel Grass won the boys race in 16:09.
Mount Ayr did not have enough runners to place as a team at the meet. Mount Ayr was led by Max Graves in 62nd place in 21:53. Other Mount Ayr finishers were Braxton McAlexander 91st in 24:20, Mason Starmer 92nd in 24:22 and Kellon Shaffer 98th in 24:52.
The Mount Ayr Middle School team placed fourth in the race with 62 points. The Raiders were led by Bohdin England with a 9th place finish in 12:09 and Adrian Catanzareti 10th in 12:11. Other Mount Ayr finishers were Joel Dolecheck 12th, Warren Brooks 13th and Carter Sheil 18th.
