It was another road trip for the Raiders this past Friday, taking them to Page county where they faced the Sidney Cowboys.
The Cowboys entered the contest at 1-3, their only win coming against Wayne, in week one of the season.
The Raiders came into the contest at 2-2 and looked to get above .500 for the first time this season.
The Raiders began the contest with the ball, with Sidney winning the toss and deferring to the second-half.
The Raider drive stalled and faced a fourth and one, however, the Raider offense stayed on the field and Jaixen Frost picked up the first down on the ground, taking the ball 29 yards to the Sidney 10.
Frost would then find Jaydon Knight through the air for a 10-yard touchdown pass.
Mount Ayr would hold Sidney to a long fourth and 14 and punt the ball away.
The reception was fumbled and Sidney recovered in Mount Ayr territory.
The first play saw Matthew Benedict find Cole Stenzel wide open in the middle for a 40-yd touchdown pass.
The one mistake wouldn’t slow down the Raiders, though, as they would go on to lead the Cowboys 36-6 at halftime.
The Raiders would keep the hammer down, adding 13 points, while the Cowboys would add six in the fourth.
Coach Ryan Victor had the junior varsity take the field late in the game with Drew Ehlen and Trevin Victor seeing time under center.
The Raiders improved to 3-2 on the season after defeating the Cowboys 49-12.
In the win, the Raiders allowed only 142 yards of offense while producing 418 yards with Frost going eight-for-eight through the air for 159 yards and 259 yards on the ground on 39 carries.
The Raiders returned 12 punts on the night for 63 yards.
The Raiders fumbled the ball four times, losing two, but played a clean game on the penalty front, being penalized twice for 24 yards.
The Cowboys were penalized six times for 42 yards.
“You brought up our last big road trip and that was our big push this week,” said coach Ryan Victor. “Remember what happened when we took our last road trip. We were zombies when we got off that yellow bird and we knew Sidney was going to play hard and they did until the end of the game. The last time we took a road trip we weren’t ready to play and we spotted them 29.”
The team has looked cohesive and together the past couple of weeks and one moment before the game, showed the team is more than just guys on a field.
Prior to the contest, Tyler Martin saw his shoulder pads break and needed a new set to play so fellow freshman and son of coach Victor, Trevin Victor, gave up his, knowing it may cost him a shot to take the field later.
Martin was able to record three tackles on the night and rush five times for 15 yards.
Late in the fourth quarter, Victor was able to take the field as Jaixen Frost gave up his pads, and jersey, to the young underclassman so he could see some valuable time at quarterback.
“One of our core values is that we are family,” said Victor. “It shows you no matter the age that these dudes care about each other and they want to see each other have success and the fact that Jaixen Frost was willing to let a midget of a freshman wear his pads out there it says a lot about his character and their character.”
