CORNING, Iowa — The 2026 Pride of Iowa Conference season is quickly coming to an end as October is here. The Raiderettes traveled to Corning last week to play conference leading Southwest Valley. The result was a 3-0 loss to the Timberwolves seeing Mount Ayr’s POI record slip to 4-2.
SW Valley won the first set 25-12 to take a 1-0 match lead. The Timberwolves won a closely contested second set 25-22 to take a 2-0 lead. The third set also went to SW Valley, 25-13 to end the match 3-0.
Mount Ayr had 89 attacks in the match and 14 kills. Payton Worthington had 22 attacks and Dannie Stewart had 20 attacks. Jaylee Shaffer and Brynlea Shields each had three kills. Shaffer had 10 assists and Stewart had 23 digs. The Raiderettes served 45-for-50 with five aces as a team. Shaffer led the team serving 12-for-13 with one ace.
The Raiderettes played at the Riverside volleyball tournament last Saturday. Mount Ayr played in four matches and lost all four. Mount Ayr lost to Class 2A No. 5 Riverside by set scores of 21-12 and 21-10. The Bulldogs have not lost a match yet.
Mount Ayr had 39 attacks and nine kills in the match. Stewart led with 13 attacks and Shields led in kills with three. Shaffer had a team high eight assists. Stewart led in digs with seven while Kate Newton had six. As a team, Mount Ayr served 24-for-24 with no aces. Newton led, going 9-for-9.
The Raiderettes lost to a 25-win state Class 2A No. 7 Woodward-Granter 2-0 by set scores of 21-13 and 21-8. Stewart again led in attacks with 13 and in kills with two. Shaffer had four assists. Stewart led in digs with six. Mount Ayr served 20-for-22 in the match with no aces. Shaffer led, going 7-for-7.
Mount Ayr lost a competitive match with Fremont-Mills out of the Corner Conference 2-0. Set scores were 21-16 and 21-19. Mount Ayr had 48 attacks and 15 kills from those attacks in the match. Stewart led in attacks with 14 while Shields led in kills with four. Shaffer had 12 assists and Stewart had 12 digs. Mount Ayr served 29-for-35 as a team with one ace. Shaffer led, going 8-for-8.
The Raiderettes also faced Class 1A No. 13 West Monona and lost 2-0. The loss set the Raiderettes overall record at 3-19 going into this week. Mount Ayr had 57 attacks in the match and 13 kills. Stewart, Shields, Shaffer and Worthington all had 11 or more attacks in the match. Shaffer led in kills with four and assists with nine. Stewart had four digs while Kate Newton and Mackenzie Jackson each had three digs. Mount Ayr served 23-for-25 as a team led by Emily Knox who was 6-for-6.
The Raiderettes played one more conference game on October 6 at home against Wayne (results were not available as of press time).
Next week Mount Ayr will play at the Pride of Iowa Conference tournament on October 12-13.
